1658 Janssonias map of Friesland
To locate Wijckel (which is spelled Wickel on this map) locate De Zuyder Zee (large body of water) in the middle of Holland. If you look at the "De" in De Zuyder Zee on the map and go up about one inch in a "one o'clock" (NNE) direction, you will spot the little town of Wickel, Friesland. This is the town from which Jentie Jeppes departed sometime after 1660 for Amsterdam and in 1664 for New Amsterdam.
