Brooklyn Eagle 7 September 1882, page 4. Cleverly captured. Officer William Van Wicklen of the First Precinct, this morning arrested a young man who gives his name as John Deady and says he resides in Cherry street, NY. The officer was on duty in Henry street, and saw Deady running. Suspecting there was something wrong, the officer gave chase and captured Deady. It turned out that the prisoner had either broken into or sneaked into the room used by Joseph Holden, who is steward at the boarding house corner of Pineapple and Henry streets, and Holden caught him in the act of going through his trunk. Holden seized him, but Deady wrestled with and threw him, kicking him severely in the hand. Then the thief ran, but was opportunely caught by Officer Van Wicklen. When searched, three gold rings and some studs, belonging to the steward, were found in the thief's possession. Alderman McCarty committed him for examination.

Van Wicklen? 1 Nov 1891 NY Times (NY, NY) William Van Wicklen of Enfield St., Brooklyn died at St. Mary's Hospital yesterday afternoon. He was 29 years old. He was knocked down Sunday by a trolley car of the Nassau Electric Line in Liberty Avenue. This makes the 129th death due to the trolley. According to 24 May 2016 email from Wayne Anderson it is most likely Charles Van Wicklin who was killed by the trolly.
