First marriage of Perry VW to Jessie Hannah Hirons and details Hartley^8 and George^8 courtesy of Ellen Van Wicklin via 22 Sept 2011 email. 17 April 2012 email from Esther Van Wicklin provides additional information on Hartley Van Wicklin and his mother, Jessie...included above. Documentation includes 1889 City Directory for Detroit, MI, Woodmere Cemetery, Detroit, MI records, US cities directories [1893, Buffalo] and Pennsylvania church and town records. [Of special interest from her account is the story of Jessie, patched together from the various records. Jessie was b. 1852 and was in a boarding house in Detroit in the late 1860s when she met and married Perry Van Wicklin. She had two children, Hartley and George, by Perry; however, George died in infancy and Hartley died at age 18. So, Jessie endured the separation from her husband who remarried and had eight other children. Jessie's mother then dies in 1887 and her only surviving son dies in 1889. Then, she moves to NY to be near her sister. When she dies in Pennsylvania in 1936 she is buried next to her mother and two boys in Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit. One cannot help but be moved by the losses and transitions this woman faced in her 84 years of existence.]
