Background information:

Jan^3 Van Wicklen (Evert^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes) was bap. 26 October 1698 in Flatbush, L.I. (sponsors Gysbert and Jannetie (Van Arsdalen) Boomgaert, his maternal aunt and uncle). He died in Flatbush between 17 January 1731 and 8 June 1732, the dates of his will. He married Ida Remsen (b. 1708 Flatbush, L.I. and bap. 3 Jan 1708) 3 January 1723. Ida’s parents were Jeremias Remsen and Heyltje Probasco of Brooklyn. Jan^3 and Ida had a child Heyltje^4 Van Wicklen bap. 22Sept 1723 in New Utrecht, Kings, L.I. Jan^3 died before 1732, the date of his wife’s remarriage to Nicholas Williamson of Somerset, NJ. Ida died 30 November 1784 and is buried with her second husband at Gravesend. Jan^3 Van Wicklen was in the (Calvary) Troop of Kings County Militia 1715. He was recorded on the Flatbush census of 1731, shortly before making his will on 17 January 1731/2. Both the census and will call him John, but he signed his will "Jan Van

Children: Heyltje^4 Van Wicklen was bap. 22Sept1723 in New Utrecht Reformed Dutch Church and married Steven Williamson in 1749. Metje^4 Van Wicklen was bap. 17Jan1725 in New Utrecht RDC.

Nicholas Williamson, son of Willem and Mayken Pieters (Wychoff) Willemse, was born about 1689 at Gravesend. he married before 1714 his first wife Lucretia Voorhees, born 1696, a daughter of Steven Coerte and Agatha/Eva Jans (Van Dyck) Voorhees, who died between 1728 and 1732. Nicholas married about 1732 as second wife Ida (Remsen) Van Wicklen, daughter of Jeremias and Heyltje (Probasco) Remsen and widow of Jan Van Wicklen, b. 3 January 1703. Nicholas died 19 September 1779 and Ida died 30 November 1784, and they are buried in the Reformed churchyard at Gravesend.

As Nicholas Williamson he was a member in 1715 of Capt. Thomas Stillwell's Company in the Kings County Regiment of Militia, and as Nicklas Willams he was listed in the 1731 census of Gravesend with two males over 10, four males under ten, two females over ten, and two females under ten. By 1755 he had acquired two slaves. He resided at Gravesend on land bought from his father before 1 December 1721 (the date of Willem's will). Nicholas' will was drawn at Gravesend 27 September 1776 and proved 18 December 1780. In it he named his wife Eida, and son Rem who inherited all "real and personal estate in Gravesend or elsewhere. He also mentioned sons William, Coert, Garret, Jeremias, and John; daughters Eva wife of Peter Prine, Majaca wife of Jacobus Rider, Janettie wife of Peter Vanderbilt, and Antie wife of Jost Stilwell; the children of son Stephen; and two daughters of son Jacobus, Lucretia and Eida.

Children of Nicholas and (first wife) Lucretia (Voorhees) Willemse are Mayken Williamson, b. 2 June 1714, probably d. young; named for paternal grandmother; Steven Williamson, b. 7 June 1716, named for maternal grandfather, m. Heyltie Van Wicklen [i.e. Heyltie married her stepbrother]; Eva Williamson, b. 5 July 1718; Willem Williamson, b. 11 Oct 1720, Coert Williamson, b. 4 March 1723, Jacobus Williamson, b. 1725, and Gerrit/Garret Williamson, b. 15 March 1728.

Children of Nicholas and (second wife) Ida (Remsen)(Van Wicklen) Williamson:

Jeremias Williamson, b. 24 March 1733, m. Sara Hoogland;

Nicholas Williamson, twin of Jeremias, b. 24 March 1733, bap. New Utrecht 13 May 1733, apparently d. young

Johannes Williamson, bap. New Utrecht 17 Nov 1734, wit. by Steven and Eva Willemse (children of father's first marriage). Johannes was living on 27 Sept 1776 when his father's will was drawn; no other record found.

Mayke Williamson, b. ca 1736, almost certainly Ida's daughter and Nicholas' second daughter of that name, m. at Flatbush 1 Dec 1753 Jacobus Ryder, both bride and groom being of Gravesend. he is called her husband in her father's will. Children (Jan, Ida, Aaltje, and Nicholas)

Joost/George Stilwell, listed as Joseph on marriage license dated 18 Sept 1765, son of Nicholas and Altye (Van Brunt) Stilwell, b 23 Dec 1742, d. 21 Feb 1827. Joost served as Captain of the "Gravesend company of foot" in the Kings Co. Militia in 1777.
