Last will and testament of Gates Van Wicklin 

 

County of Hastings to wit: I Stephen Ames of the Township of Brighton in the County of Northumberland, yeoman, make an 
oath and say...

1. On the fifth day of November an instant I was personally present and saw Gates Vanwicklin of the township of Brighton in the County of Northumberland, duly sign, seal and declare as and for his last will and testament the instrument now shown to me and marked with the letter "A."

2. Said instrument was so signed, sealed and declared by the said Gates Vanwicklin at the said township of Brighton in the presence of myself and Roswell Priotzer who both present together at the same time in his presence and at his request and in the presence of each other subscribed our names as witnesses.

3. The paper writing hereto annexed marked with the letter "B" is a line copy of the said last will and testament of said Gates Vanwicklin so executed by him as aforesaid.

Sworn at the town of Trenton in the County of Hastings this eighth day of November AD 1888 before me,

This is the last will and testament of me, Gates Vanwicklin of the Township of Brighton in the County of Northumberland and Province of Ontario, one of the Provinces of the Dominion of Canada, made this fifth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight.

I revoke all former wills or other Testamentary dispositions by me at any time heretofore made and declare this to be my last will and testament and also revoke any and all wills that may be made by me after this date.

I direct all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses to be paid and satisfied by my executors hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.

I give, devise and bequeath all my Real and Personal Estate, of which I may die possessed of or interested in, in the manner following, that is to say: to Sherman Vanwicklin and Edward Vanwicklin known as my sons but not born during wedlock I devise and bequeath my real and personal property in equal shares.

Should the said Edward Vanwicklin not return and reside with me and remain and work on the land now owned and occupied by me or on other lands that I may hereafter become possessed of them, I devise and bequeath to the said Sherman Vanwicklin the share of said Edward Vanwicklin.

I hereby declare that this will is made by me in consideration of services already rendered me by said Sherman Vanwicklin and Edward Vanwicklin.

This will is also made by me upon the agreement of said Sherman Vanwicklin and Edward Vanwicklin to work and care for the interest of myself and property in a faithful manner.

And I nominate the said Sherman Vanwicklin and Roswell Proitzer to be executors of this last will and testament.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand on the day and year first above written and affixed my seal for and on account of the consideration herein before expressed.

Sealed, signed, published and declared by the said Gates Vanwicklin, the testator as and for his Last Will and Testament, in the presence of us, who both present together at the same time as his presence, at his request, and in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
