Judy Zieg, through
Ancestry.com for vital stats and children of Clarissa and her two
husbands, Hiram Washburn and Isaac Rogers
From Judy Zieg through Ancestry.com. Clarissa and Isaac are both enumerated in the 1850 census in Algonquin, McHenry County, IL. By 1860 they are residing in Arkansas, and in Missouri, as that is where Isaac died in 1861. Clarissa then moved back to Illinois and although I could not find her in the 1870 census, I did find her residing in South Elgin, Kane County, IL with her oldest daughter of the Washburn marriage. She died in 1882 in Wisconsis, where she was living with a son from her second marriage. Mr great-grandmother, Mary Matilda [Rogers] Roof was born in 1849 in McHenry County, IL and was the oldest daughter of Isaac and Clarissa. Mary Matilda resided in Kane County, IL in 1870 as a domestic servant and she was married there in 1871. The family then lived in Clintonville, near Elgin, and in fact, I was born in Elgin in 1938, so by then, everyone settled down to that area. My grandmother resided with our family while I was growing up and she told me many stories of her mother and grandmother, and my mother was very close to her aunt, who was Martha “Matt” Washburn Church, the daughter named in the 1880 census. For full disclosure, I should tell you that Grandma P always said her grandma [Clarissa] was kind of mean and didn’t appear to like children very much, but noth Grandma P and my own mom said that Mary Matilda was the dream mom and grandmother.
