William is a civil war veteran and POW. He enlisted 15 Feb 1864 at age 29 and was assigned to Co. C, 13th Michigan Infantry Regiment on 23 Feb 1864. He was a POW on March 25, 1865 at Goldsboro, NC and was held at Libby Prison. Discharged from Co. C, 13th IR, Michigan on 3 June 1865 in Detroit, MI. William filed for Civil War Pension benefits at Johnstown, Barry, MI and his wife, Mary A. Van Wickle filed for Civil War Pension benefits 21 June 1907, MI after William died on 11 June 1907. Cole on 12 Feb 1874 in Van Buren, MI and they had two children, William Otis and Effie Edna. Emma raised granddaughter, Leota Cole for her son,William; Harvey^8 Van Wickle, b. 4 Mar 1860, OH and d. 24 Dec 1880. He married Charissa Buell Thayer on 22 May 1880. They had no children and Harvey died a mere 7 months after he married; Cephese^8 Angeline Van Wickle, b. 13 June 1863, Mattawau, VanBuren, MI and d. 16 October 1954, Kingman, Kingman, KS. She married Chester Waite Whitelaw on 16 October 1884, Bloomingdale, VanBuren, MI; Effie^8 H. Van Wickle, b. 1868, MI and d. 13 Jul 1954. She married Doc. Maynard Thayer on 31 Dec 1884 in Van Buren, MI and they had three children: Lilah, Hazel, and Iva; Mary^8 Ophelia Van Wickle, b. 13 Oct 1873, Almena, Van Buren, MI and d. 12 Jan 1937 in Muskegon, MI. She married first to Homer F. Estabrook on 1 Jul 1891 and had a son, Harvey Abner, b. Feb 1892, MI.
